I joined the insider program for Windows 11. Windows 11 was installed, I didn’t like it and I uninstalled it. Then I signed out of the Insider program. But when I open Windows Update, Windows 11 Insider Preview is automatically downloaded and the installation starts.
Somehow I can’t stop the Windows 11 Insider Preview download. I’m looking at the Windows Insider Program, no account or anything. From https://insider.windows.com/en-us/leave-program it seems that I have exited the Insider program, but Windows 11 download and installation cannot be cancelled.
What can I do?
If you’re on the Developer channel, you need to format the computer to stop receiving updates. But you can get away with it if you do it this way.
To stop the Windows 11 Insider Preview download, follow these steps:
- On PC, go to the Windows Insider Program section.
- Add your Microsoft account from the Windows Insider account section and rejoin the Insider program.
- Choose Beta or Relase as your channel, not Developer
- When you go to the Windows Insider program area, you will see the option to stop Preview builds. Turn it on.
- Restart the computer.
Also stop Windows Update service from services and delete all files in C:\WINDOWS\SoftwareDistribution folder. You can then open the Windows Update service.
